The SATS observatory is the result of three decades of sustained observational effort by the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO) and its scientific and technical staff, as well as national and international collaboration around oceanographic time series, their relevance, and the challenges associated with their maintenance and the results they provide. All these factors have shaped the sampling strategies, deployed instrumentation, and collected datasets, as well as the scientific questions that this observatory aims to help address.
